Miss LaTina  "Princess of Tides"
"Sir" Loin at The Hyatt

Her Story
Miss LaTina represents my childhood memories at the Von Harten dock.
With
imported shrimp and land development places like these are fading.  Miss LaTina
was actually a name of a shrimp boat that had a mermaid on the front of it.  The
salt life on the backside of her tail was just a few species of my childhood. The
mirror in her front hand represents the ocean. Its shape represents the moon,
which controls the ocean, the womb of all things.

I want to give thanks to all
my family and friends that  have supported me through
this whole process. Thank you to my parents, Billy and Sue Partridge, and my
in-laws Bill and Judi Judge for sponsoring me. My loving husband for supporting
this entire project from day one. The Pender Family for their generous donation of
a 100.00 and also lending me their daughter for countless number of hours. The
wonderful people at  the ACBC for believing in me every step of the way.
The total amount of time that I had was two weeks. Hundreds of hours later and
lots of dedicated help I was able to get her completed in time for her unveiling
ceremony at Beaufort's Annual Shrimp Festival.  The timing was perfect!!! Miss
Latina made a huge splash. I hope that people were able to walk up and get a
glimpse of history.
Miss LaTina "Princess of Tides"
Miss LaTina is one of many mermaids
that  grac
ed the lovely streets of Beaufort,
S.C. The mermaids are part of the Arts
Council of Beaufort County's Big Swim
Project. She is my tribute to the shrimping
industry . She
was located in Anchor Park
which is in the small town of Port Royal.
I first heard about this project the day
before the deadline.  What better way to be
able to give back to a community  that
made me who I am today. We never had
anything like this when I was growing
up.
What a wonderful treat for the kids.
She made her three hour voyage in two halves.
Luckily I have wonderful friends who love me.
Not only did Jennifer get to deliver her to me but
she had to help me bring her to life. We had a
lot
of tedious fiberglassing to do. Every once in a
while our husbands would help out, b
y pointing
to the places we missed.
                                                  "Sir" Loin at The Hyatt
This jaguar is one of 54 big cats that were all over Jacksonville, Fl. It was a public art project for the Otis
Smith
, the coach of the Orlando Magics, Kids Foundation which is a non profit organization for at risk kids
in Northeast Florida.   I was sponsored by The Hyatt and Plaza III Steakhouse. This project took me a
total of two and a half weeks to complete. He is about 9 ft. Long and 3 ft. High, not including his tail.  Their
last project was the manatees which raised over $200,000.00.
That's my wonderful neighbor Robin. Some
how I talked her and her kids into helping.
What have I gotten myself into!!!!!
Miss LaTina
was auctioned
off for
3,000.00..
Sir Loin was auctioned off on July 10, 2007.
He was the second top producing cat. He
raised $10,000 for the Otis Smith
Foundation. That money  will put four kids
though college for two years .
What a wonderful early birthday present!!!!
